Synopsis

As deforestation and climate change disturb Belize’s critical rainy season, one organization works to educate children both locally and abroad about the importance of preserving the rainforest, using an unexpected icon: butterflies!

Director Statement

Kate Boylan-Ascione is an innovative Australian director and produce based in Brisbane, but brought up in the tropical far North Queensland. Completing her Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Productions at Griffith Film School in 2019, Kate aspires to create socially impactful films, taking inspiration from the Daintree and surrounding communities she grew up alongside.

She works part-time directing music videos and promotional content for local Brisbane bands and businesses. In 2019, Kate traveled to both Vanuatu and Belize to make short documentaries about social issues; titles including "Chief of the Reef', 'Ravet Faven', and 'The Butterfly Effect'.

Through her work, Kate desires to raise awareness about human rights and social justice on the international stage and ultimately create positive change in disadvantaged communities.
